The making of the club film 'Judgement Day', which was filmed in one day

Gordon and Rita describing the making of the club film 'Judgemnet Day'
Members of Surrey Border Film & Video Makers recently
made a film called ‘Judgement Day’ which involved a large proportion of the
total membership in a grand one-day concerted effort. At their January club
meeting members heard how the idea for the plot was hatched by member Margaret
Firmston after walking around the private estate made available to us just
outside Alton. Another member, Rita Wheeler, then talked us through the various
stages involved in turning the original script into a shooting script for the
four camera teams involved. A total of 350 minutes of raw video was captured on
the day, providing a mammoth task for the editor to cut down to the final 14
minute video. Gordon Sutton, the club’s vice chairman, took on this unenviable
task. In an enthralling talk he let us into many of his editing secrets which
helped him achieve such an excellent result. Not least of his tasks was to
manipulate a dramatic fire which was to show a large house burning down. Not
surprisingly the owners were not willing to allow this actually to happen.
However, to watch the video anyone
would think it had! What marvels can be performed at the hands of an editor
given sufficient dedication, expertise and, of course, a computer!
As a finale to the evening we watched the complete
‘Judgement Day’ video and although some members had seen it before this was
now with the insight of how the many special effects had been achieved.
Congratulations to all involved.
