PRO February 2005 - Club AGM and talk on lighting by Peter Greenyer
To attract as many members as possible to its recent AGM, Surrey Border Film & Video Makers arranged a fascinating talk for afterwards. The tactic worked well and resulted in a lively AGM. Unsurprisingly most discussion centred around membership fees and the spending of money. Fortunately, with a thriving membership and a large number of new members, the club is financially sound, so membership fees remain unchanged.
Following the AGM and the usual break for refreshments Peter Greenyer gave a talk on lighting
effects. He started by illuminating a volunteer with various types of light while showing the results on a large screen. The audience watched in fascination as he moved the lighting around and commented on the various effects. Next he enthralled us with descriptions of the types of light he had used in his professional life, including lighting up Westminster Abbey for state occasions and performances at the Royal Albert Hall. Throughout the talk was the recurring theme of the similarity of fundamental lighting principles - whether for a simple portrait or a large-scale state occasion with thousands of people.
