Press report: August 2007
Over this Summer, Surrey Border Film & Video Makers have been busy making a film about King John and his reluctant signing of the Magna Carta. A potential worry with filming outdoors is always the weather, and everyone knows what that has been like this Summer! However luck was with us. The first shoot took place at Odiham Castle which King John visited on his way to the signing, and it was a beautiful sunny day, although the high winds did make the sound recording particularly tricky. The next major shoot took place on a farm near Bordon where, once again, the rain held off and it was a beautiful day. Here we recorded the signing of the Magna Carta. That actually took place at Runneymede but the nearby farm was much more convenient and who will know the difference? The farm also generously supplied a horse for King John and a rider to act as his double in the horse-riding parts. Acknowledgment and thanks are also due to Creative Media for professional help and loan of equipment. This film inspired significant numbers of club members to turn out at both locations, which was beneficial all round. Film-making roles were shared and even just observing provided enjoyable and significant learning experiences. One further filming session is planned before the mammoth task of editing it all together. The premiere will no doubt be sometime during this coming Winter, after which the film will be entered for competitions. |
