Press report December 2005

An exceptionally large throng of members packed into the club room of Surrey Border Film & Video Makers for its annual competition night on 2nd December. They were eager, not only to see the videos that had been entered, but also to meet the charismatic David Watterson, the visiting film critic, who was due to comment on the efforts.

The programme was extremely full as so many members had entered so many videos. Unfortunately time did not allow them all to be shown. A few excellent holiday videos were shown while quite a few more looked as though they had originated on holiday but had interesting themes and features added to provide wider appeal. This would seem to give an interesting insight into the motivation of members. Typically many join the club to learn how to make something out of video they capture on holiday. Then comes the realisation that such videos are rather personal and more has to be added to give interest to a wider audience.

There was no specific theme for the competition and as a result the entries were wide-ranging with subjects, from wood fired kilns to Lotus cars to ‘The Last Hunt’. Interspersed between them were the lively, incisive, humorous and informative comments by David Watterson who then presented the lucky winners with their prizes at the end of the evening.

Just two days later members wound up another successful year by retiring to Camberley Golf Club for a splendid festive Christmas lunch.
