On January 7th, St. Martins Church Hall was packed to capacity as members and friends of Surrey Border Film & Video Makers gathered to hear their President, Sir Paul Holden, present a celebration of the work of Ken Mackay, a respected member who died recently. Members were reminded of Ken’s contributions to Club competitions through five short films. The first “Two for One”, had originally been awarded 100% for enjoyment in the ‘Film in an Evening’ competition. Another “A Shaggy Dog Tail” was already a classic in the club archives. After refreshments, the second half of the evening was devoted to the “Making of Hedgehogs (Fashions from Farnham) 2004 Video”. Hedgehogs are a Farnham Charity that collects money for various causes by running a fashion show at the Maltings. They had approached the club to request a video of the 2004 show to raise money for the four special needs schools in Farnham. Through a series of video clips, Gordon Sutton, the club’s Vice Chairman, told the story of the making of the video, from the initial talks to the training, recording and finally editing. The video had been a prodigious undertaking, far more sophisticated than anything the club had previously attempted - with a core team of 12 members, in association with Peter Greenyer, the producer of the Show. The inputs of Dick Hibbard on camera work and Mike Saunders for loans of sophisticated equipment were gratefully acknowledged. Gordon reported that everyone involved with making the video had very much enjoyed the experience – and the hard work - and had felt privileged to contribute to a thoroughly worthwhile cause. |
