David Watterson gives valued opinion of our films
David travelled up from Bristol to be present at the club meeting and deliver his assessments. After each film was shown, he treated us to a delightful appraisal of it. He was bubbling with enthusiasm and the audience were enthralled by his witty and insightful analysis which was not only entertaining but also provided plenty of ideas for future films. An added bonus was that David provided each film-maker with a carefully considered and extremely helpful critique of their film. Indeed with the entry date for a major Regional film competition only days away, some contestants were anxiously lapping up the suggestions ready for an immediate start on improvements. Contestants came away from the evening with many glittering prizes, and it was pleasing to see awards going to some new younger members. This trend and the increasing membership indicates that the club is providing a good stimulus for its new young filmmakers. Two days after the competition, members adjourned to the Camberley Golf Club for their Christmas lunch. The new venue put on a magnificent meal with all the traditional dishes and trimmings. Plenty of wine and good cheer flowed and everyone clearly enjoy themselves, with lively discussions carrying on until late in the afternoon. What an ideal conclusion to the club year.

Early in December
Surrey Border Film & Video Makers had its major annual competition. This is
the event of the year with many cups and other awards up for grabs. Members may
enter films that they have made on any topic at all, but must keep the length
down to less than six minutes. This year we were fortunate indeed to have a
particularly highly respected judge, David Watterson, who had been sent the
competition entries a month earlier, in good time to study them and make his
judgements.
