What's on / club diary
Surrey Border Film & Video Makers, a filmmaking video club which meets on the first Friday of the month for one or more films, talks or other events. In addition there are various filmmaking activities, outings and other activities. Individual groups, training and film-making exercises are arranged to suit the individuals and the circumstances. (See 'Help/training'.) Meetings start at 7.45 and end at 10:15 with a refreshment break at around 9:00. It is a good idea for visitors to arrive by 7:30. | 6 MAY 2011 | Surrey tri-annual film awards ceremony. Come and see the best we have produced over the last 3 years. |
| 3 June 2011 | Guernsey Lily winners. A presentation by Dick Hibberd. Come along and join in the discussion of these films. |
| 1 July 2011 | Our annual 'Film in an Evening' competition. The theme this year is 'Easier said than done'. Groups gather beforehand to discuss, plan and rehearse for this evening. On the night they have to produce a film in just 2 hours (including shooting and editing) to show to the club at 9.30pm. |
| 3 July 2011 | Our annual garden party. This will be at Rita's and is for members and their partners only. If you haven't yet signed up then contact Jean asap with your £5. |

| 2 September 2011 | Rochdale Movie Makers are coming all the way down South to entertain us with a selection of their excellent films. Accommodation has been offered to them. |
| 7 October 2011 | Interclub competition.
An evening when we entertain four other clubs who bring along
their best films in a friendly competition. Ealing won the competition last year and will
be defending their position against films from the clubs of
Epsom, Haywards Heath and Isle of Wight. This is an evening for seeing a high standard or films as well as a social gathering of amateurs keen on filmmaking. Visitors are welcome at all our meetings. Come and see battle commence. |

Chairman’s Evening – David Fairhead, editor
of 'In The Shadow of The Moon', seen on national television,
will be showing us a preview of the premiere of his latest film.
A number of club members helped as 'gophers' during the filming
of this. All the actors and film crew have been invited. This
will be a fabulous evening and an opportunity to mix with the
professionals. Plus a Retrospective of Paddy Haines’ and Bruce
Frazer's films N.B. films for the December competition must be handed in tonight. N.B. Your deposit (£10) for the Christmas lunch needs to be in by today as well. |
| 2 December 2011 | Annual members competition. At the November meeting members will have handed in tapes of new films they have made. These will have been judged and the judge will show them and make constructive comments. Prizes will be awarded. The Watersons have agreed to travel to us to act as judges. |
| 4 December 2011 | Club Christmas lunch - at the Farnham house hotel. £18. The rooms are booked from midday with lunch at 1.00pm. |

| 6 January 2012 | Premier of the club entry for the North v South competition and a chance to meet all the film crew and actors. Also your webmaster Neil Cryer will be showing a selection of winning films from BIAFF 2011. N.B. this will include significant time for discussion of each film so do come along and have your say. We all hope to learn from recognising what other filmmakers do and this is helped by hearing the views of others. |

| 4 February 2012 | Workshop run by John Bevan who has specialised during his professional life in filming advertisements. This workshop is re "Shooting a tv commercial" and will be held in Dick's studio. Lunch will be at the Shepherd and Flock. N.B. we will be 27 and counting. |

| 2 March 2012 | An evening with John Collins and Tom
Blount, professional
freelance camera men. Here’s your opportunity to pick the brains of an experienced professional cameraman! John Collins has been a lighting cameraman since 1990. Although now freelance, he has worked mainly for the BBC on programmes such as The One Show, That’s Life, Challenge Anneka and Watchdog and has also done much corporate work for companies like Virgin Atlantic, Renault, Tesco and Ford. He will be talking about his career and also imparting a lot of useful information on the art of good camerawork as well as location editing. John has been editing on Final Cut Pro since 2005 and has plenty of experience editing news packages in tricky locations. John will also be bringing along some of his kit, for example a mini jib arm which he has recently acquired, and his cameraman friend Tom Blount will bring along his GlideCam. |

| 4 May 2012 | The Reading club will entertain us with a selection of their films. |
| 1 June 2012 | Mike Sanders, a professional filmmaker, will give us a talk 'How to do it'. An insight into some of the 'techi' bits of filmmaking. |
| 6 July 2012 | This is our Film in and Evening competition night when
groups of members face the challenge of producing a complete
film from start to finish in only two hours! Members then assemble at the club at 9.00pm to display their results. N.B. visitors - please don't arrive at the hall before 9.00pm as there may be no-one there! |
