A slight difference of opinion!
Garden parties are popular with this video club. These are typically, but not always held in a member’s garden, and have, occasionally been combined with a filming exercise such as making a club film. On one occasion a special script was written about a deadly rivalry between video clubs. Great fun was had by all, and the film ended with a scene of the burning down of the manor house in whose grounds the garden party was held! We love special effects! One year we spent the day at Tilford Rural Life Centre on a day when they had what they called 'Rustic Sunday'. This was one of their heritage days and so there was plenty going on to interest everyone with plenty of filming opportunities. For moments when we wanted to retreat from the public eye and relax amongst ourselves we were privileged to have our own private tented area. Previous garden parties were spent in President Paul Holden’s garden, complete with covered and heated swimming pool. Where ever we hold these events, the emphasis is on relaxation and good food.=
A day in Peter Matthew's garden
It was a very hot day when Surrey Border members gathered for a
garden party in Peter's garden. There are few gardens like it with an extensive model railway running round the
whole garden. Members were taken back to their
childhood with this monster train set involving multiple trains, all remote
controlled with closed circuit television to watch what is going on. The trains
run through tunnels and cross bridges, the latter can be lifted for the passage
of mere humans through these spectacular surroundings. Below are some of the
pictures.

A garden party, complete with swimming pool
A general scene in the glorious sunshine, croquet, swimming and a mouth watering lunch

Croquet was set out on the lawn and proved popular. Much instruction was needed but in the end everyone seemed to get
the hang of it. Particularly popular were the times when an opponent’s ball could be sent off into the flower bed or otherwise
off the lawn. Fortunately no-one sent their opponents ball into the swimming pool.
Some scenes during swimming
Beautifully warm and most members had their costumes. So much fun was had and a good appetite built up for the meal to follow.

Some scenes over lunch
Here we have just some of the tables and only one of the courses. No-one actually went to sleep in the afternoon but with the wine, the warmth and the earlier exercise it might have been expected. Discussions ranged over many topics but quite a bit of film planning went on.
