Surrey Border Filmmaking Website

This web site for Surrey Border Film & Video Makers has been built up since the Summer of 2002 by the club's Public Relations Officer. The original site was written in a long battle with Front Page using tables. This most recent layout has done away with tables and uses block structures. This transition has not been easy with significantly more care required to ensure all the structures fit inside or alongside each other correctly. I have developed a toolkit of structures which are compatible with each other and largely this works. The colour scheme is part of a corporate colour scheme for the club. This is best illustrated if you look at the club newsletter which is so ably designed by the club newsletter editor. Note that there are still pages using the old table based layout such as in the older PRO reports. These are slowly being converted.

Abandoning tables for layout control has resulted in a greater freedom of layout but does seem to require a greater knowledge of html and indeed I use Expression which allows a dual window to show the design and code at the same time.

All pictures are taken with a digital camera and then processed in Photoshop. For many pictures a duplicate layer is made and the main characters extracted in the upper layer. The remaining background is then given a slight blur while the main characters may have important aspects enhanced to bring them forward. The layers are then merged and the picture 'saved for the web' at a pixel size to fit the candidate space. In this way I trust the page size is kept to a minimum to help the speed of loading. Originally everything was minimised in size to allow for people using a modem to view but now most have broadband this criteria will be eased. Let me know if you think I have compromised in quality too far.
